Dr. Kristen Horton
Dear Continental Colony Family,
It is my pleasure to welcome everyone for another momentous year at Continental Colony Elementary School. I am excited to begin this year with a “normal” start. We will continue our mission to develop compassionate and knowledgeable life-long learners through the progressive implementation of internationally minded instruction and rigorous assessment.
We will focus on the commitment that every student and family are an authentic partner and have real opportunities to shape the experiences students have in school, receive accurate and accessible information about students’ progress, and have a legitimate role in decision-making. We will shift our family engagement strategy from Removing Barriers, a model to allow for school-based innovation focus, to Academic Parent Teacher Teams (APTT), a model designed to strengthen teacher-family relationships by focusing on student academic growth and achievement. It elevates the efforts of traditional parent-teacher conferences by inviting all families of the same classroom teacher to meet rather than individually. You will receive information about these sessions in the upcoming weeks.
We are excited to welcome everyone into the building for Open House this Friday, July 29th from 9:00am – 11:00am. We are asking everyone to enter through the front entry doors. As you enter the building, we would like for you to stop at your child’s grade level table to set an independent reading goal and an attendance goal. We want you to partner with us to ensure your child reads every evening for at least 30 minutes and attends school every day. After you set goals with and for your child, you will have time to visit your child’s classroom and meet the teachers.
Please be reminded APS will continue to implement a start time of 7:45am and end time of 2:45pm. Masks are optional for students, and we will continue COVID Surveillance Testing each week with consent from the parents. We will also continue to implement our school-wide uniforms (red top with khaki bottoms). It is truly a privilege to be a part of a community where parents, teachers, and students care for each other and strive to build positive relationships that support academic and social growth. Please feel free to contact me at 404-802-8000 or kristen.vaughn@atlanta.k12.ga.us. Let us continue to work together to uphold our why, to increase life chances one book at a time. Together We Will Increase Life Chances One Book at a Time!
Humbly,
Kristen Horton Ed.D.

Assistant Principal

Christopher Gomillion
Greetings Continental Colony family,
I am thrilled to serve as your assistant principal, and to be a part of a school with such a strong commitment to students and their success. As a native from Atlanta, I have seen this school flourish and grow into the resilient pillar of the community it is today, and I am delighted to be a part of the CCES team in taking us to the next level of success.
I was led to the education profession because helping children to learn academically and socially came natural to me. Not only did it come naturally, but I found fulfillment, pride and joy in being a part of helping a child to be the best he or she can be. I feel if what you are doing isn’t making a difference then why do it.
I have been with the Atlanta Public Schools System for fifteen years. I spent ten years in the classroom as a 2nd, 3rd and 5th grade teacher. I then served as an instructional coach where I managed the math and science instructional program. I bring with me a set of skills that I will use to build trusting relationships among the students, staff, and community. I will be committed, trustworthy and diligent in preparing our students to be college and career ready. I believe it’s not a difficult thing to inspire students to learn as long as there are several key components present. If learning is engaging, relevant and rigorous then students will have no choice but to have a quality learning experience.
I am excited for what’s about happen at the great Continental Colony Elementary school. We have the right people in the right place. Together as a collective effort, we will help create life chances for our students to do great things in life!
Sincerely,
Christopher Gomillion Ed. S.

Annette Mitchell
Hello!
My name is Annette C. Mitchell. I am proud to call Continental Colony Elementary School my home for the past 13 years. I have taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades during my time at Pantherville. Currently I am the IB and AVID Coordinator. This position has given me the opportunity to work closer with my colleagues, and to interact with the entire student body.
Growing up in Brooklyn, New York I always knew that I would be an educator because my parents taught me to value education. Therefore, I became captivated with learning, helping and inspiring others. Since I was a youngster, I have had a love for reading and history, and because of these loves, I have had the wonderful opportunity to travel overseas and explore historical destinations firsthand.
In my spare time I love restoring antique furniture, doing home improvements, and hanging out with my family and friends.
Math Instructional Coach

Timisha Foster
As a Math Instructional Coach with 19 years of experience in education, I’m passionate about supporting teachers and helping students reach their full potential. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of teaching 1st through 4th grades, which has given me a deep understanding of how young learners grow and thrive in mathematics.
In my current role, I partner with teachers to strengthen math instruction, build confidence in classroom practices, and create engaging learning environments where all students can succeed. I believe in the power of collaboration, meaningful practice, and continuous growth—for both students and educators.
One of my favorite quotes, by Paul Halmos, captures the heart of what I do:
“The only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics.”
Whether modeling lessons, guiding data-driven instruction, or co-planning with teachers, my mission remains the same: to inspire a love for math and a belief in every child’s ability to succeed.
Literacy Instructional Coach

Natasha Battle Evans
Greetings Panthers!
I am Natasha Battle Evans, your ELA Coach for CCES. I am a Native of Birmingham, Alabama. In 2003, I began my professional career in the field of Education in the state of Georgia. Over the course of my career, I have taught 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. I have served as an Instructional Site Facilitator. As an Instructional Site Facilitator, I had the opportunity to collaborate with teachers and instructional staff which allowed me to provide effective leadership and support to implement a standard based curriculum where best practice strategies were used to improve teaching and learning for the overall goal of increasing student achievement. I am a firm believer that education should be full of experiences and equitable opportunities. “Tell me and I won’t remember… Teach me and I will remember… Involve me and I will learn.”
In my free time, I love spending quality time with my family and friends through traveling and adventuring to new places around the Atlanta area. My hobbies are reading, dancing, trying new restaurants and learning how to apply make-up. As a proud member of CCES, I look forward to collaborating with all stakeholders in order to “Increase Life Chances” for all students.

Ms. Kafi Green
I serve as the RTI/SST Coordinator for Continental Colony Elementary School. I believe that each child will achieve at the highest possible level when a supportive learning environment is provided through collaborative relationships with the school, home and community. I am a fan of Atlanta’s sports teams including the Falcons and Hawks. Most weekends during the season I can be found cheering them on.
